A Message from the Program Director...
Our emergency medicine residency program here in Buffalo has been my professional home for the past fourteen years. I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying environment in which to practice. The strength of the faculty alone ensures the superior quality of the residency. Faculty members with varying backgrounds, ranging from previous community practice to other academic centers, have come together here to make up a core faculty that provides our residents with a diverse clinical training that is second to none. Our program offers training in a diversity of clinical hospitals to include rural, suburban and inner-city populations. Our affiliated Women's and Children's Hospital of Buffalo offers cutting-edge training in pediatric emergency medicine. A particular strength of the program is a curriculum in specialized areas of emergency medicine developed by faculty with a national presence, which includes ultrasound, telemedicine, and EMS.
And last but not least, the region of Western New York has so much to offer that I truly feel this is one of the best places in the country to live. The cost of living is always a pleasant surprise to those residents who land here from outside the region. And yes, I know it's cold in the winter. But with the local professional sports teams, the regional ski resorts, the theater, the spectacular restaurants, and more, there's always something to do outside the world of medicine. The summers are beautiful too, with Lake Erie and Lake Ontario offering a beautiful setting for boating or relaxation, and the multitude of summer festivals offer a continuous background for summer activity.
I look forward to meeting those of you who come through to interview and I am confident that you will be drawn to the residency and to the area as I was. And most of all, I wish you strength and fulfillment in all of your professional endeavors.
